Blue Hour Photography in Singapore and Beyond

What I am Doing Now (22 July 2022)

I came back from Uluwatu, Bali, fully recharged, but my work has quickly drained the energy. πŸ˜… I don’t know when I’m going away next time and to where (hopefully to Japan at the year-end). Just looking forward to the next short break until the eternal break (retirement) comes.

A few months ago, even before replacing my tripod with Manfrotto 055XPRO4 , I had an idea to replace Nikon D610 (DSLR) with Olympus PEN E-PL10 (my small sub camera) and shoot everything with PEN, including blue hour cityscapes.

The goal is to go smaller with all my photography gear so that I can pack everything in a small backpack and go shooting by riding my folding bike (now I always take public transport).

So, on one sunny evening, I tested my PEN by shooting long exposure photos at blue hour on my tripod, but the result was undesirable (in terms of sharpness and long exposure noise). I was probably too ambitious, considering that PEN is merely the entry-level camera after all. πŸ˜…

Having been a Nikonian since the days of D60, the natural path for me should be sticking with Nikon, just upgrading the body to mirrorless (Z 6II), then keeping my DSLR lenses (using via a lens adapter). That said, there is a part of me wanting to give myself a new leash of photography life by switching to something else other than Nikon. My loyalty is tested. πŸ˜…

Good to hear the trip rejuvenated you and thanks again for coming all the way!

I think FF will always give a special look/quality that can’t really be matched, hopefully in the not too distant future we can get even smaller FF bodies but ergonomics will likely suffer πŸ˜…

No worries at all! To me, I rarely shoot handheld anyway, so FF with the size of PEN will be great!
